Ultimate 1,700+ Piece OCD Video Game Collection Up for Grabs on eBay [Best Auction Ever]

Ultimate 1,700+ Piece OCD Video Game Collection Up for Grabs on eBay [Best Auction Ever]:

23_Atari_2600.jpgSweet merciful crap. A seriously obsessive gentleman spent 30 years of his life collecting video game consoles and games, and now he’s selling his entire 1,768-piece collection on eBay in one shot, presumably at the command of either the courts or a lady. Just the system list is insane, not to mention the games. Check out these pictures then follow me to after the jump for a sampling of the goods offered.

First of all, the system list:

Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Atari Jaguar, Atari Lynx, Coleco ColecoVision, Coleco Gemini, Coleco Telstar, Commodore 64/128, GCE Vectrex, Mattel Aquarius, Mattel Intellivision, Mattel Odyssey 2, Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Xbox 360, Miscellaneous APF TV Fun, Miscellaneous Handheld Games, Miscellaneous PC Games, Miscellaneous SC Eight Thousand, Miscellaneous Sega Pods, Miscellaneous TV Games, NEC Turbo Duo, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo NES, Nintendo Nintendo 64, Nintendo Super NES, Nintendo Virtual Boy, Nintendo Wii, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Game Gear, Sega Genesis, Sega Master System, Sega Saturn, SNK Neo Geo, SNK Neo Geo Pocket, Sony Playstation, Sony Playstation 2, Texas Instruments TI 99/4A, VM Labs Nuon.

See anything missing in there? Because I don’t. Wait, where’s the TurboGrafix 16? And he calls himself an obsessive collector.

As for games, he has, well, a lot of them, including weird rare stuff like the Christmas version of NiGHTS for Sega Saturn and the Gold Cartridge Micro Machines for NES. Gold Cartridge!!! How can you resist?

You really need to see the full list to really appreciate how bananas this auction is. Right now it’s at $3,383.33, but the Buy It Now price is $10,979.00. Plus free shipping! What could you possibly be waiting for?! [Auction Page and eBay via Geekologie]

Senate Panel Investigating Six Top Televangelists:

CBS News has learned Sen. Charles Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is investigating six prominent televangelist ministries for possible financial misconduct.

Letters were sent Monday to the ministries demanding that financial statements and records be turned over to the committee by December 6th.

According to Grassley’s office, the Iowa Republican is trying to determine whether or not these ministries are improperly using their tax-exempt status as churches to shield lavish lifestyles.

The six ministries identified as being under investigation by the committee are led by: Paula White, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Eddie Long, Kenneth Copeland and Benny Hinn. Three of the six - Benny Hinn, Kenneth Copeland and Creflo Dollar - also sit on the Board of Regents for the Oral Roberts University.

Light as you type:

Another strange USB device. This lamp changes its color and gets brighter depending on how fast you type. Despite the fact that your LCD screen will probably give you enough light to see what you are doing, this lamp might be more useful if it was hacked to generate a small desk fan that cooled you as you started sweating from all of your typing hours.

Andy sent me a couple of shots of his beautiful stamp decorated keyboards. He write that he’s made about 10 of these beauties. Each of his keyboards are made with the stamps of a single nation and often commemorate a royal coronation or celebrate a particular sport. Andy’s friends and family are most often the lucky recipients of these works of art.

Man, this band has come a long way since the days when they insisted that their fans were only supposed to listen to their albums one side at a time, with no shuffling, singles or tracks allowed!

Is absinthe a hallucinogenic or not?

Filed under: Interesting — mist. @ 6:25 am

Is absinthe a hallucinogenic or not?:

If absinthe isn’t hallucinogenic, why do so many people get hallucinations on it?

A friend handed me a glass of absinthe at a party. I had never heard of absinthe and figured it was just some brand of alcohol. I drank about half a measuring cup. It tasted sort of like Sambuca, but stronger.

First I got a really weird kind of drunk. I had an intense craving for sex. I also had a very strange experience where I seemed to just lose all sense of morality. I actually made a plan to do some awful things to people for my own gain, which seemed surreal the next day when I was sober again. Towards the end of the night, I got hallucinations, which felt rather like dreaming except that I was awake. It was very similar to the one time I experienced sleep apnea, except that instead of having just woken up and lying in my bed, I was still walking around at the party. I saw my cat who had died come and scold me for letting him die. It was rather nightmarish.

I’ve talked to some other people who have tried absinthe and they have reported the exact same things: cravings for sex, loss of morality, hallucinations. Then I was very surprised when I looked up absinthe and saw plenty of reports of the exact same thing, except every source describes these reports as just myths.

So I’m very confused! Is there something going around under the name of absinthe that is actually something completely different? How did we get all these effects if they’re just myths? It can’t be psychosomatic because I had never even heard of absinthe and had no idea it was anything special.

Obama Supporters Pressed To Keep Colbert Off Ballot:

Two prominent supporters of Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in South Carolina called state Democratic Party officials urging them to oppose putting comedian Stephen Colbert’s name on the primary ballot, according to party officials and Obama supporters with knowledge of the calls.

Colbert, the host of Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report,” saw his efforts to be placed on the primary ballot ended last week when the South Carolina Democratic Party executive council voted 13-3 to block his bid, with the majority of voters saying he was not a viable enough candidate to be included in the primary.

Interesting exhibit at the Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL. I like the idea of using garish adverts as paper mâché…. -

Focusing on the U.S. conflict in the Middle East over the past 10 years, Consuming War addresses the ways the American media and consumer culture have manipulated and influenced our perceptions of war, often turning it into a spectacle for American consumption. While war is an underlying theme in all the works, each addresses the concept of war, and our relationship to it, from a variety of angles, creating pieces that range from political cartoons to sculptures that recreate the archeological artifacts looted from the National Museum of Iraq and large suspended papier mâché bombs made from sale advertisements. Timely in its subject matter, Consuming War offers an innovative platform in which the complex and multifarious connections between war, capitalism, American consumer culture, and our everyday lives can be re-situated and critically examined.

Who didn’t walk out of The Last Starfighter — yep, the Lance Guest movie from the ’80s — hoping to find a Starfighter game in the arcade? Sadly, the game was never produced. But some guys over at Rogue Synapse recreated a playable version of the actual game from the movie — it’s a free download — and offer drawings of the movie-prop game cabinet. Add a little MAME ingenuity and you’ve got yourself the arcade you dreamed of as a kid. (Just don’t leave me behind if Centauri comes for you first.)
