Flickr image clock:

flickerclock.png

A nifty little Flash app called Flicker Time grabs photos of the ‘momment’ and generates a dynamic digital clock with them.

Enter the tags you’d like the images based on (or none for totally random choices), and Flicker Time assembles the clock: digital numbers made of images, with an analog ticker in the background. Mouse over any image to see a larger version, and be sure to hang in there for at most a minute to see the neat-o transition, where images fly in to create the new digit. This sucker requires a fast connection, and it’s more of a time waster than a time saver, but it’s could be a fun alternative to your screensaver.

ZSubway:

“Filed under:

New Yorkers love their iPods, and they travel around in a hole in the ground. Sure, others have mashed together subway maps and the iPod, but ZSubway is the newest entrant into this market and that deserves a post, right? Plus these maps (which are in color and tell you lots of pertinent info like which trains run express, and where the connections are) work on any iPod you might have.

How much would you pay for this? Well, whatever you said is too much, ZSubway is free.

5 Apple products that never made it:

The AppleGazette has compiled a list of 5 Apple products that were prototyped but never made it into mass production. I’m sure the basement at Cupertino is just filled to the gills with prototype iPhones and Mac Tablets that were never meant to be.

The five prototypes highlighted are the Apple PowerBop, Apple Paladin, W.A.L.T, Apple Videophone PDA, and Apple PenLite (pictured to the right). More info about all of these prototypes, and more, can be found at the Apple Museum.

Spray-On Condom: From Liquid Rubber To Sweet Love in Mere Seconds

Spray-On Condom: From Liquid Rubber To Sweet Love in Mere Seconds:

sprayoncondom.jpgA German firm has developed a spray-on condom for all your lifestyle needs. The liquid condom comes in an aerosol can that you spray onto the organ in question. A few seconds later, the liquid solidifies into the familiar latex and forms a tight seal. The company says it’s a great time saver and is easier to use than traditional condoms. It’s still in the testing phase (in fact, they’re looking for volunteers right now) so it might be a while before it hits the neighborhood drug store. Now there’s no ‘but I hate putting it on’ excuses. And anything that promotes safety and responsibility is A-OK in our books (usually).

Best Sitting Posture Is Not Straight Up:

“An anonymous reader writes, ‘Researchers at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen, Scotland used a new form of magnetic resonance imaging to collect images from 22 healthy volunteers, who assumed three different sitting positions: slouching posture in which the body is hunched forward, an upright 90-degree sitting position, and a relaxed position where the subject reclined backward 135 degrees. They concluded that the reclined position is the best, and the forward slouch the worst.’ From the article: ‘’We were not created to sit down for long hours, but somehow modern life requires the vast majority of the global population to work in a seated position,’ Dr. Bashir said. ‘This made our search for the optimal sitting position all the more important.'’

How They Make LEGO Bricks:

“harajukboy writes ‘Businessweek.com shows us how the famous LEGO bricks are made. Among the new facts I picked up was that LEGO is the largest tire manufacturer in the world, and that the process is so air tight that only 18 of 1 million pieces are considered defective.’ I knew I was getting old when I first realized that these kids today with their modern legos have it too easy, what with all those crazy custom pieces. Why, when I was a kid, we had to use our imagination to build stuff.

You’ll need BitTorrent to retrieve the ‘Wikipedia CD,’ which can be accessed from any browser. Looks like a great tool for kids and schools! The CD is free and should work on any platform.

Windows only: Freeware program Undelete Plus lets you recover your deleted files on your Windows box.

Undelete Plus scans your hard drive for all those files that have been deleted in Windows but haven’t been overwritten on your hard drive. We’ve covered this territory before, but Undelete Plus has a better interface and tools than previously mentioned Restoration, making it easy to sort your results by filetype and set up filters to help narrow things down significantly. Alternatively, Undelete Plus also lets you wipe out files that are still available but that you want to be gone forever, kind of like the Windows File Shredder. Share your favorite file recovery method in the comments.

You control the launcher through fully mod-ready PC software. But why no Mac support? We’re not all pacifist, granola-eating, black mock turtle-wearing hippies. Oh wait.
