Every BODY Has a Story: Hellboy:

hellboy.jpg

‘This is my favorite and most recent tattoo. I love how the black and white contrast ended up looking. This cartoon is from a series that I LOVE called Hellboy, by Mike Mignola. At one time, he worked for Dark Horse comics.

Mike’s style in general, is high contrast, which made it good for this tattoo. Also, I loved this particular part of the cartoon. I guess Mike’s editors asked him to do a short piece on Hellboy’s childhood. Mr. Mignola thought it wouldn’t make more than a page or two, but it ended up being a lot longer. It’s a Hilarious section.

Hellboy is being introduced to pancakes for the first time, and though he is wary, he tries them. He discovers he likes them, which leads to hell being completely screwed up.

The tattoos that I have on my upper body are all pretty serious. I wanted the ones on my lower body to be funny. I got this last July (06’), but I had planned on having comic books on my legs for a while. I have always loved comic books and I plan to do another one. My name is Jen, and I have a comic called ‘Killing Time’ that will come out on lulu.com this December or January. ‘

Commodore 64 Titles Join Wii’s Virtual Console

Commodore 64 Titles Join Wii’s Virtual Console:

“TechDock writes ‘Gamasutra reports that several Commodore 64 games will be emulated on the Wii’s virtual console.’ From the article: ‘Although no specific titles were named, the only indications so far are of titles from now defunct U.S. developer Epyx, maker of the likes of Impossible Mission and the Summer/Winter/World/California Games series. Best known for their work on the 8-bit Commodore 64 home computer, Epyx also designed the prototype Lynx console for Atari as well as several of its games.’ I’m thinking we need Ghostbusters, Defenders of the Crown, Maniac Mansion, and (of course) Boulder Dash.

The Gif Format is Finally Patent-Free:

“tonymercmobily writes ‘Not many people noticed that the GIF file format is only now free from patents, as of the 1st of October 2006. Quick recap: first in 1999 Unisys tried to extort money from users and developers. Then, in 2003 the world hoped that the saga would finally be over. Then, in 2004, it was IBM’s turn. Now, the SAGA seems to be over for real! Does anybody find Unisys’ page on GIF as hilarious as I do…?’

Space Invaders Alarm Clock Invades Your Morning:

Big brother site Gizmodo kicked us out of bed this morning, bringing word of this Space Invaders alarm clock. While we aren’t exactly morning people (or even, afternoon for that matter), waking up to this retro gaming clock might actually make us less bitchy before noon. Or not.

Video: apparently-baked biz school prof who was soon fired:

Xeni Jardin:

BoingBoing reader Shawn says,

It appears from the content of this video that this University of Florida professor — whom everyone has to take in the business school — got REALLY REALLY REALLY HIGH before one of his classes.

As I am told, he was fired the next day. Minute 28 is hilarious.

I’m including links to the windows video files hosted at UF in the hopes someone remixes this.

Looks like the lecturer’s name is Howard J. (John) Hall, and he remains listed on the faculty of the University of Florida, Warrington College of Business. Link 1, and Link 2. He does ramble, but he’s far more entertaining than any of the business school professors I ever sat through.

Cold medicine to be restricted starting this weekend:

“Feeling sick and thinking of buying over-the-counter cold medicine like Sudafed or Claritin-D? Be prepared to wait in line at the pharmacy counter, show a photo ID, and sign a log book. The nationwide restriction of medication containing pseudoephedrine or ephedrine begins this weekend. Why? Those 2 ingredients are used to make meth.. (NPR audio piece).”

Goodbye Orphan Annie:

R.I.P Tokyo Rose Iva Toguri D’Aquino, who served seven years in federal prison for treason after taking part in Japanese propagande broadcasts during WWII, died yesterday at the age of 90. She had been originally cleared by the Justice Dept of any wrongdoing, howevera media frenzy led by the likes of Walter Winchell reopened her case, and she was convicted on very shoddy evidence and perjured testimony. Years later, it was relieved that she had actually been a part of a plot with US POWs to hinder the propaganda effort.

Convert anything to PDF online:

convert%20pdf%20online.png

Web site PDF Online lets you convert a bevy of document types to PDF online, sending the resulting PDF to your email address as an attachment.

While PDF Online doesn’t convert everything, it does handle a lot of file types (see screenshot), and might come in handy if you need a quick PDF on-the-go. In fact, even if you ‘Print to PDF’ a lot on your desktop, PDF Online might be a nice tool to keep in mind, especially if you email the file to yourself anyway.

Somewhat disappointingly, PDF Online doesn’t convert web pages by URL, but if you’re looking for something along those lines, check out previously-posted RSS 2 PDF.

Porn Superstar Ron Jeremy Once Worked For Disney…:

“As improbable as it may seem, Disney once employed Ron Jeremy - years after he established himself as a porn star. In his upcoming autobiography, ‘Ron Jeremy: The Hardest (Working) Man in Showbiz,’ the guy who earned the nickname ‘The Hedgehog’ for his hairy roundness, reveals how, in the 1990s, he anonymously played a monster named ‘Blister Face’ on the Saturday morning kids show ‘Bone Chillers.’

cPanel Exploit Used to Circulate IE Exploit:

“miller60 writes ‘In a dangerous combination of unpatched exploits, hackers have used a previously undiscovered security hole in cPanel to hack the servers of a hosting company and use hundreds of hijacked sites to infect Internet Explorer users with malware using the unpatched VML exploit. cPanel, whose hosting automation software is used by many large hosting companies, has issued a fix. It’s a local exploit, meaning the attacker must control a cPanel account on the target hosting provider.’

Google Maps NYC subway station smells:

smellmap.jpg

Our inimitable sister site Gawker takes the Google map mashup to an olfactory extreme with the New York City Subway Smell map.

See what stations smell like perfume, food, poo or a whole host of other lovely big city scents. Having just spent a week back in NYC after a year of California fresh air, I can personally attest to the pungentness New Yorkers unknowingly get used to every day. Ok, so this won’t make you more productive, but it might help you plan a less stinky commute through the five boroughs.
