Abandoned Games:

“Ghost Pig writes ‘The people of Exiled Gamers have put together an Abandonware Campaign with which they hope to be able to convince game publishers to rescue titles from their current ‘Abandonware’ status, and make them available for the public to play (legally) once again. They have made mention of quite a few titles that have slipped into the status of Abandonware (titles that it’s no longer possible to buy at retail, and that are near impossible to locate on sites such as eBay), which includes System Shock 2, Freespace 2, as well as older titles, such as The Chaos Engine, Alien Breed and Flashback.’

Check out this great set of 1980s photos by Runs with Scissors on Flickr. He’s got some wonderful scanned shots of the subway, and some amazing slice-of-life shots from the Bronx, like this one. There’s some more in his portfolio series and even more in this set. [Related: Bfraz also has some 1980s NYC, and here’s a bunch of 1980s Big Apple vids on YouTube.]

Wooden Cadillac:

We had the wood motorcycle today, so how about a wood car? ‘ It took Nickel more than four years to form the body by laminating 1-inch strips of mahogany. He used 1,000 board-feet feet of wood cut into 4,183 individual pieces, five gallons of glue, 60 pounds of drywall screws and four gallons of varnish.‘- Thanks Ubi! Link.

ATF agents rid university of deadly ninja threat

ATF agents rid university of deadly ninja threat:

Xeni Jardin:
Agents from the US bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearm agents detained a ‘suspicious individual’ on a Georgia college campus — a guy dressed up in a ninja costume, on his way to a party on campus.

Jeremiah Ransom, a sophomore from Macon, was leaving a Wesley Foundation pirate vs. ninja event when he was detained. After being held in investigative detention, he was found to have violated no criminal laws and was not arrested.

‘It was surreal,’ Ransom said. ‘I was jogging from Wesley to Snelling when I heard someone yell ‘freeze.’’ Ransom said he thought a friend was playing a joke before he realized officers had guns drawn and pointed at him.

“Kimberly Williamson Butler, a mayoral candidate in New Orleans, is running a campaign photo of her standing in what appears to be the French Quarter, but what, on closer inspection, seems to be the simulated French Quarter in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square, home of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, in Anaheim, CA. Note the red circle around the waste-can that shows where the eagle-eyed Justin spotted the tell-tale evidence. Link (Thanks, Anthony and Gene!)

I suppose if you’re a Tetris addict you’ll want to pick up this little travel alarm clock, but it seems a bit to messy for my taste. It would be cool if it was a better reproduction of the game and maybe played a touch of Russian folk music to wake you up in the morning.

‘Since I had to search all over the place to try to find WordPress templates (er, themes), I figured I’d save you all the time and maintain a list here of every single WordPress 1.5+ Theme I could find.’
